The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has ruled “violation” in the application regarding the non-delivery of Abdullah \u00d6calan’s books, the magazine Demokratik Modernite and the newspapers Yeni Ya\u015fam, At\u0131l\u0131m, K\u0131z\u0131lbayrak and Y\u00fcksel to prisons. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sixteen bar associations issued a statement regarding the penalty imposed on Amedspor, stating, \u2018This decision is not only an attack on a sports club but also an attack on the existence of millions of Kurdish citizens.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kemal Can, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Can Holding, who was detained as part of an investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, has been arrested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Co-Chairs of the DEM Party stated that the penalty imposed on Amedspor for using a Kurdish slogan was shameful and called on the Turkish Football Federation to immediately reverse this decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lawyers drew attention to the situation of prisoner Serkan Onur Y\u0131lmaz, who has been on hunger strike for 320 days demanding the closure of high-security prisons, emphasising that Y\u0131lmaz’s demands must be met. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yava\u015f has applied to the Ministry of Justice for the re-examination of the decisions not to prosecute in 54 investigation files opened against former Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Melih G\u00f6k\u00e7ek and bureaucrats of the period. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Council of State granted permission to investigate nine ministry officials in connection with the Grand Kartal Hotel fire. However, the request for permission to investigate Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Nadir Alpaslan was rejected. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

An appeals court has overturned the sentence of nearly 20 years’ imprisonment against the dismissed co-mayor of Hakkari, Mehmet S\u0131dd\u0131k Ak\u0131\u015f (DEM). The judges criticised serious procedural errors, but the politician remains in prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trial of 14 lawyers in Istanbul who faced charges over protests against the appointment of trustees was halted because permission was not obtained from the Ministry of Justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A group of DEM Party deputies have brought recent allegations of child suicides in Urfa to parliament agenda. According to the motion, at least 11 children and teenagers have allegedly died by suicide over the past 10 months in Siverek district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thirteen people were detained early today as part of a corruption-related investigation into the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality over concert expenditures between 2021 and 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Executives and a program host from the Tele1 broadcaster were taken to court in \u0130stanbul after prosecutors opened an investigation into a broadcast caption that compared President Recep Tayyip Erdo\u011fan to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The court issued a judicial control order against them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

An \u0130stanbul court has ordered access restrictions on two reports published by bianet concerning the detention of Ekrem \u0130mamo\u011flu. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The AKP Istanbul Provincial Directorate announced that it had filed a criminal complaint against CHP chair \u00d6zg\u00fcr \u00d6zel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Court of Appeal upheld the sentence of two years, seven months and 15 days in prison and a ban on political activity imposed on Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem \u0130mamo\u011flu for allegedly insulting the President of the Supreme Election Board and its members. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

CHP leader \u00d6zg\u00fcr \u00d6zel claimed that following the alleged meeting between Trump’s son and Erdo\u011fan, Erdo\u011fan promised to purchase 300 Boeing aircraft in order to secure a meeting with Trump. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turkey\u2019s media regulator has imposed fines on five international streaming platforms and ordered the removal of several films and series, citing violations of \u201cnational and moral values.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second hearing of the case against Halk TV news anchor Ece \u00dcner, charged with \u2018publicly insulting the state’s judicial organs\u2019 and \u2018attempting to influence a fair trial,\u2019 was held in Istanbul. The court acquitted her. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first hearing of the case against Zi\u015fan G\u00fcr, a reporter for Sendika.Org who was detained while covering protests in Sara\u00e7hane, and 65 other individuals, accused of \u2018participating in unlawful assemblies and marches without weapons and failing to disperse voluntarily despite warnings,\u2019 was held in Istanbul. The hearing was postponed until February. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe urged Turkey to implement the ECtHR’s rulings on imprisoned politician Selahattin Demirta\u015f and release him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several diplomats have been removed from the US’s Syria team in Istanbul. The changes were justified on the grounds of restructuring. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ahmet Temiz, whose release was postponed twice by the decision of the Prison Administration and Observation Board, was released from prison after 31 years of imprisonment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

An indictment seeking a prison sentence of between six and 15 years for journalist Furkan Karabay on charges of \u2018insulting the President\u2019 has been accepted. It was decided that Karabay would remain in custody. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the \u201ccity settlement\u201d case heard at Istanbul’s 23rd High Criminal Court, Beyo\u011flu Municipal Advisor \u0130kbal Polat of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) was released, while nine defendants remained in custody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the trial against musician P\u0131nar Ayd\u0131nlar, the Istanbul public prosecutor’s office is seeking acquittal on charges of membership in a terrorist organisation \u2013 while at the same time demanding punishment for alleged propaganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fifth hearing in the lawsuit seeking to annul the 2023 congress of the CHP took place today. After reviewing the parties’ requests, the court adjourned the case to 23 October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Council of Judges and Prosecutors failed to reach an agreement on changes to chief prosecutors in four districts of Istanbul, and the decision was postponed again. Chief prosecutor appointments are expected to be finalised this week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Journalists Timur Soykan and Bar\u0131\u015f Pehlivan were prosecuted on charges of \u2018publicly disseminating misleading information to the public.\u2019 The journalists face prison sentences ranging from one year and six months to four years and six months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seventy-six bar associations issued a joint statement yesterday regarding lawyer Mehmet Pehlivan, who was connected to \u0130mamo\u011flu’s trial via SEGBIS from the prison where he is being held in order to defend him.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A lawsuit has been filed against Ekrem \u0130mamo\u011flu, seeking a prison sentence of up to two years and four months on charges of \u2018insult\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saturday Mothers gathered at Galatasaray Square and demanded answers about the fate of 35-year-old Kenan Bilgin, who was detained in Ankara Dikmen on 12 September 1994 and subsequently disappeared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0130stanbul prosecutors have ordered the appointment of trustee to oversee Can Holding, owner of one of the country\u2019s largest media and education groups, and the seizure of assets belonging to 121 affiliated companies as part of a major financial crimes investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Solidarity, Fraternity and Democracy Commission convened for the eighth time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ankara 3rd Civil Court of First Instance has rejected the case seeking the annulment of the \u0130stanbul provincial congress of CHP, held in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second hearing in the trial of Istanbul Bar Association executives has concluded. At the hearing, where the prosecutor requested more time for deliberation, all requests made by the defence lawyers were rejected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Within the scope of the investigation against Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, 17 of 20 people for whom a detention warrant was issued were detained. A trustee was appointed to Antalya-based “Kanal V” television channel within the scope of the operation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the resignation of Mayor \u00d6zlem Vural at Beykoz Municipality, three CHP council members also resigned. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trial of Deniz Akta\u015f, co-chair of the Socialist Party of the Oppressed, who was charged with \u2018membership of an organisation\u2019, was held in Istanbul. Akta\u015f was released on bail and placed under house arrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second hearing of the case against Istanbul Bar Association President \u0130brahim Kabo\u011flu and members of the bar association’s executive board was held in the courtroom located at the Marmara Prison campus in Silivri. Hearing will continue until tomorrow. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

DEM Party Spokesperson Ay\u015feg\u00fcl Do\u011fan announced that an expanded delegation will visit Abdullah \u00d6calan next week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

MHP chair Devlet Bah\u00e7eli has called on the court to remove the leadership of the CHP in an ongoing case concerning alleged irregularities during the opposition party\u2019s latest congresses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Six people, including Mustafa Adnan Akyol, President of Yap\u0131 Yol-\u0130\u015f, were detained during house raids in Istanbul, Adana and Hatay. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prisoners held at K\u0131r\u015fehir High Security Prison stated that, as of midnight last night, guardians entered their cells every hour and forced them to roll call. The prisoners requested an emergency committee. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turkey Today – 08.09.2025<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tensions have remained high since early morning, with protesters trying to enter the CHP building and police responding with tear gas and water cannons. Several people were detained, with some reportedly injured. CHP MP Servet Mullao\u011flu, affected by pepper spray, was taken to hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The protests were accompanied by a reduction in internet speed for certain applications. By midnight, users reported disruptions on X, Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The General Directorate of Security announced that proceedings had been initiated against 39 individuals due to social media posts, and that 10 individuals had been detained. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enes Hocao\u011fullar\u0131, who was arrested for raising allegations of strip searches during the March protests at the Council of Europe, was released on bail 35 days later. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 16-year-old indvidual carried out a shotgun attack on a police station in the Bal\u00e7ova district of \u0130zmir leaving two officers killed and two others wounded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After G\u00fcrsel Tekin, who was appointed as the trustee of CHP Istanbul Provincial Branch, announced that he would go to the building on Monday, the police closed all the streets leading to the building after the call for gathering on Sunday evening. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at the workshop on \u2018Legal Requirements in the Process of Peace and Democratic Society\u2019, \u0130mral\u0131 Delegation member Mithat Sancar, said: \u2018Methods should be developed and regulations should be made to solve the problem that led to the conflict.\u2019 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Human Rights Association emphasised that the lives of Veysi Abdurrahmano\u011flu, Emin Alada\u011f and Cihat \u00d6zdemir are in danger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
