The statement given to the FBI by Umut Alta\u015f, the fugitive suspect in the G\u00fclistan Doku investigation, has been added to the case file. In his statement, Alta\u015f stated that Mustafa T\u00fcrkay Sonel had killed Doku and that he had helped to move the body. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the DEM Party\u2019s 5th Ordinary Congress, Tuncer Bak\u0131rhan and T\u00fclay Hatimo\u011fullar\u0131 were re-elected as co-chairs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instagram has closed the Turkish-language account of the Mesopotamia Agency. Citing its \u2018Community Guidelines\u2019 as the reason for the closure, Instagram did not allow an appeal or a request for reconsideration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prosecution has requested the detention of seven of the 12 people who were taken into custody and brought before the court as part of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (\u0130BB) investigation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Human rights organisations, drawing attention to the situations of the seriously ill prisoner Mehmet Sait Y\u0131ld\u0131r\u0131m in Izmir, Neytullah Bayram in Ankara and Kadir Karabak in Istanbul, called for the release of the sick prisoners. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Saturday Mothers\/People brought attention to the case of Fethi Ild\u0131r, whose body was found bearing signs of torture after he was taken into custody in 1993, during their 1,119th week of protest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Halide T\u00fcrko\u011flu, spokesperson for the DEM Party Women\u2019s Assembly, who emphasised the need for a Women\u2019s Council to ensure women play a key role in the peace process, said that the contacts they had established with female representatives from political parties with parliamentary groups were in the process of developing into a formal organisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A re-arrest warrant has been issued for Peyman P\u0131nar Mersinli, the mother of the attacker who was released in the trial concerning the school attack in Mara\u015f in which 10 people lost their lives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Diyarbak\u0131r, police raided Amargi Culture and Arts Association after midnight, conducting an unannounced search and changing the lock on the association\u2019s door. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ahead of the election for deputy mayor, four CHP members of the \u00dcsk\u00fcdar Municipal Council defected to the AKP. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office has launched an investigation into 36 companies in connection with tenders organised by the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality and its subsidiaries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Journalist Oya Lale \u00d6zan Arslan was detained as part of an investigation launched by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office on charges of \u201cpublicly disseminating misleading information\u201d and \u201corganised group propaganda\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The indictment against comedian Deniz G\u00f6kta\u015f, who was arrested on the grounds of his \u2018Dead Sea\u2019 show, has been accepted. G\u00f6kta\u015f, who faces up to 12 years in prison on three separate charges, is due to appear in court on 28 September. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Party Diyarbak\u0131r MP Sezgin Tanr\u0131kulu issued a statement following his visits to the \u0130zmir Alia\u011fa Prison Complex, expressing his outrage at the human rights violations taking place: \u201cThere is no longer any judiciary left in Turkey.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite being acquitted in the case against him, dismissed Mardin Co-Mayor T\u00fcrk will not be able to resume his post for at least another two months following the decision to extend the suspension. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fifteen people have been taken into custody as part of an investigation launched by the Diyarbak\u0131r Chief Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the 75th day of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (\u0130BB) trial, the requests for release submitted by the detained defendants were heard. The prosecutor at the hearing delivered his closing statement, calling for the continued detention of all the defendants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office has launched an investigation into Ahmet Davuto\u011flu, the former leader of the Future Party, over statements shared on social media that are being treated as an offence of \u2018insulting the President\u2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following Amedspor\u2019s 2-1 underdog victory against Turkish football giants Trabzonspor, an individual recorded on the Trabzonspor supporter bus doing hate speech against Kurdish fans was detained yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turkey Today – 02.09.2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Erdo\u011fan, stating that the government has a roadmap and timetable for the process, said, \u201cProcesses that are open to such provocation must not be allowed to drag on for too long.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mustafa Karasu, a member of the KCK Executive Council, stated that they expect face-to-face meetings with Abdullah \u00d6calan to take place in the coming period.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mazlum Abdi, the SDF Commander-in-Chief who was appointed to the post of \u2018Presidential Adviser\u2019 following the announcement that the SDF had been disbanded in Syria, has been removed from Turkey\u2019s \u2018terrorist list\u2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The case of Mehmet \u015eim\u015fek, a member of the Revolutionary Youth Associations who was arrested ahead of the NATO Summit and subjected to torture and ill-treatment at Antalya S-Type Prison, was raised in Parliament, calling for an investigation into the incidents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the investigation into \u00dcsk\u00fcdar Municipality, in which Mayor Sinem Dedeta\u015f was arrested, Deputy Mayors Amine Cansu \u00c7elik and Mithat \u00d6zdemir have been taken into custody. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drawing attention to the lawlessness that has occurred during the conflict, Erin\u00e7 Sa\u011fkan, President of the Union of Bar Associations, said, \u201cThe issue should be viewed not merely as the silencing of weapons, but as the full-scale establishment of a democratic state governed by the rule of law and the fostering of social cohesion through the law.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marches were held in Diyarbak\u0131r and Istanbul to mark World Peace Day on 1 September, under the slogan \u2018Democracy and peace will triumph over war and exploitation\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Legal organisations, speaking on the occasion of the opening of the judicial year, emphasised the importance of establishing an independent and fair judiciary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another suspect detained during the fifth wave of operations carried out as part of the G\u00fclistan Doku investigation has been remanded in custody. The number of detainees in the investigation has risen to 30, whilst proceedings for six suspects are still ongoing at Erzurum Courthouse. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former Minister of the Interior \u0130dris Naim \u015eahin, who had gone to Ankara Courthouse to give evidence as part of an investigation into the S\u00fcleymanc\u0131lar community, was referred to the duty magistrate\u2019s court with a request for judicial supervision. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
