The  governor&#8217;s office has now extended the ban on assembly for another 15  days on the grounds that it is a measure to contain the virus.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Detained\n journalist Ziya Ataman complains of symptoms of covid disease. He is \nbeing held in solitary confinement. In the indictment, the system of co-chairpersonship is  described as &#8220;against the regulations&#8221; and cited as criminal evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mesopotamia\n News Agency reporter Mehmet Aslan is taken under police custody after \npolice raided his home in Istanbul. It is reported that the journalist \nis detained as part of an investigation launched by the Antalya Chief \nProsecutor&#8217;s Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hakkari\n HDP Co-Mayor Cihan Karaman who was replaced with a trustee appointed by\n the Ministry of Interior was released at the third hearing against him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>17 students have been detained for protesting the new president appointed to Bo\u011fazi\u00e7i University by President Erdo\u011fan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ruling\n AKP spokesperson \u00d6mer \u00c7elik has denied rector Melih Bulu&#8217;s appointment \nto Bo\u011fazi\u00e7i University was a blow against academic freedom, saying, \n&#8220;There is no shame in having a political identity in democracies.&#8221;<br>Rezan\n Ep\u00f6zdemir, the attorney of the G\u00fcltekin family, has indicated that the \ncourt board is trying to reduce the sentence of the defendant due to \nunjust provocation and demanded recusal. The next hearing will be held \nin February. P\u0131nar G\u00fcltekin (27), a student of Mu\u011fla University, was \nfound dead on July 21, 2020, five days after she had got missing.<br>After\n Yusuf Aydemir, the paternal uncle of 4-year-old Leyla Aydemir, was \nreleased from prison, both the Public Prosecutor and the attorneys of \nthe Teacher Saadet&#8217;s Association for Struggle Against Child Abuse (UC\u0130M)\n appealed against the ruling of release of the court. Both objections \nhave been rejected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>F. Merz, one of the contenders to succeed \nMerkel as leader of Germany\u2019s Christian Democratic Union has said that \nhe doesn&#8217;t see #Turkey joining the EU in long-term. He instead suggested\n that post-Brexit trade deal between UK &amp; EU could set a precedent \nfor EU &#8211;&nbsp; Turkey partnership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Covid-19:&nbsp;According to a chart  prepared by Total Analysis research company,&nbsp;Turkey ranks 97th among 100  countries in COVID-19 transparency. 194&nbsp;people have died of the virus  and 14,494 new infections were registered in the last 24 hours.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p> <strong>Turkey Today \u2013 <\/strong> <strong>04.01.2021<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The  trial against Selahattin Demirta\u015f for insulting President Erdo\u011fan and  then Prime Minister Davutoglu was adjourned until March 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Turkey\u2019s\n Ministry of Trade has imposed a fine of over 20 thousand lira to \nEvrensel newspaper over its 25th anniversary video broadcast on TELE1 \nchannel and featuring a girl who is holding a scarf in yellow, green and\n red.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Istanbul\n police attacked and tear-gassed Bo\u011fazi\u00e7i University students for \nprotesting and condemning the appointment of long term AKP member Melih \nBulu as rector by President Erdo\u011fan.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amid\n harsh criticisms of students &amp; faculty members, Prof. Bulu has \nwelcomed his appointment in a statement on social media: \u201cWe are all in \nthe same boat\u201d. Long term AKP member Bulu was appointed as rector to the\n Bo\u011fazi\u00e7i University by President Erdo\u011fan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bedriye  Arzuman, mother of Hamza Arzuman who has not been able to visit her son  in prison in G\u00fcm\u00fc\u015fhane Type E Prison for the last two years said: &#8220;My  only wish is that my son to get out of there and brought to a closer  prison.
