{"id":2162,"date":"2026-02-23T04:30:25","date_gmt":"2026-02-23T03:30:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/eutcc.net\/?p=2162"},"modified":"2026-02-25T21:31:03","modified_gmt":"2026-02-25T20:31:03","slug":"roundtable-debate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/eutcc.net\/?p=2162","title":{"rendered":"Final Statement EP Roundtable Debate"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Final statement of the panel debate \u2018Turkey and the Kurds in dialogue: peace, reconciliation and democracy\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The EU Turkey Civic Commission (EUTCC) held a round table debate on 25 February 2026 in the European Parliament in Brussels, hosted by MEP Evin Incir, Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament.<br>This round table debate, entitled \u2018Turkey and the Kurds in dialogue: peace, reconciliation and democracy\u2019, came at a historic time of important steps towards a political solution of the Kurdish question in Turkey following Mr Abdullah \u00d6calan\u2019s call for peace and a democratic society on 27 February 2025. Developments in Syria, the attacks by troops of the Syrian transitional government on Rojava in particular, are also very critical in this context.<br>A peaceful and democratic regional process is only possible with broad support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, we demand<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The immediate introduction of legal and political measures for the progress of the process<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Freedom for Abdullah \u00d6calan so that he can adequately fulfil his leading role in the process<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We call on the European Union and its institutions as well as the Council of Europe<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To exert pressure on the Syrian transitional government in the interests of a pluralistic Syria, so tha Rojava&#8217;s status is secured and the siege of Kobane is ended immediately<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enforce the immediate implementation of the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights in the case of Abdullah \u00d6calan<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use all mechanisms to strengthen the process for a political solution to the Kurdish question and thus the democratisation of Turkey and the Middle East<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove the Kurdistan Workers\u2019 Party from the terror list to send positive signals in favour of the dialogue process<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230;<br>EU Turkey Civic Commission<br>www.eutcc.net<br>Twitter: @EUTCC1<br>Facebook: Eu Turkey Civic Commission<br>Instagram: @eutcc1<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>&#8220;TURKEY AND THE KURDS IN DIALOGUE: PEACE, RECONCILIATION AND DEMOCRACY&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Brussels, European Parliament<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Wednesday, 25th February 2026, 17.00-19:00<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>PANEL &#8211;
