Despite massive criticism from the opposition, the Turkish parliament’s justice committee has passed the 10th justice package with the votes of the ruling AKP and MHP parties. The draft is to be presented to the plenary in the coming days.
Evaluating the 10th Judicial Package submitted to the Parliament, IHD Co-chair Eren Keskin said, “There is nothing in this package that will raise hopes for a solution. Equality in execution must be ensured and the Anti-Terror Law must be abolished.”
AKP’s Orhan Kırcalı defended the article blocking the release of prisoners sentenced to “aggravated life imprisonment” on the grounds of “posing a danger to society”.
82 of 94 university students who were detained during the Gezi protests were released. Of the 12 people referred to the courthouse today, 2 were arrested and 10 were referred to the judgeship with judicial control conditions.
