“Freedom Rallies” were held in Diyarbakır and Istanbul demanding the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan.
Sezgin Tanrıkulu, CHP MP for Diyarbakır and Deputy Chair of the Turkish Grand National Assembly’s Human Rights Investigation Commission, stated that there was no longer any judicial independence in Turkey following his visits to the Aliağa Şakran and Buca Kırıklar prisons in İzmir.
It has emerged that the bachelor’s degree listed on the CV of Nimet Özdemir—who joined the AKP after being presented with a badge by President Erdoğan and switched to her third party in her third year in Parliament—is from a university that has not been recognised by any country.
Muhittin Böcek, who has made statements of ‘sincere repentance’ against Özgür Özel, Veli Ağbaba and Ferdi Zeyrek, has most recently accused Ekrem İmamoğlu of asking him for money.
Members of the Private Sector Teachers’ Union, who returned to Izmir after ending their hunger strikes in Ankara, emphasised that their resistance was not over and that they would continue their struggle until their rights were secured.

Eleven new immunity files relating to 10 MPs, the majority of whom are from the CHP, have been referred to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
Speaking about the legislation expected to be introduced, Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş said: “The proposed legislation will not cover everyone. The laws passed will not constitute an amnesty. They will take the form of sentencing regulations.”
AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik stated that the process had entered a new phase, adding that the relevant legislation must be placed on the Parliament’s agenda and passed into law at the earliest opportunity in order to establish a legal framework.
In a motion they tabled, DEM Party MPs called for an investigation into allegations of torture against the Iranian nationals Salah Bımarı and Resul Bımarı, who were arrested and detained in Hakkari’s Şemdinli district.
At their 1,109th weekly vigil, the Saturday Mothers commemorated Ibrahim Kartay. The father of three was detained during a Turkish military raid in Amed in 1994 and has been missing ever since.
In statements made in Istanbul and Ankara regarding prisoners who are ill, attention was drawn to the health problems faced by Mehmet Elçe and Burhan Adsız, and calls were made for their immediate release.

An Ankara court formally arrested 103 people, including an academic, a journalist, lawyers, environmentalists and students ahead of the NATO summit next month.
A number of social media accounts, including those of youth and democratic mass organisations, were blocked ahead of the NATO Summit.
In statements made in many cities within the scope of the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, it was stated that torture is being attempted to be normalized under the guise of “security policy”.
The third hearing in the trial of five police officers — accused of assaulting and handcuffing lawyer Murat Çelik during the 954th weekly gathering of the Saturday Mothers at Galatasaray Square on July 8, 2023 — was held in Istanbul. Trial adjourned until October.

NATO has declined accreditation for several major news outlets and journalists ahead of the alliance’s summit scheduled to take place in Ankara on Jul 7-8.Following criticism, NATO said it took the decisions “based on the host nation’s assesments” and were in contact with Turkish authorities on the issue.
In the lawsuit brought by Justice Minister Akın Gürlek against CHP leader Özgür Özel, a compensation order of 150,000 lira was issued.
In an official letter sent to Turkey, rapporteurs from the United Nations Human Rights Council requested a comprehensive explanation regarding the administrative and judicial measures taken against Esra Işık and Halime Şaman, who are campaigning for environmental causes.
In a motion for an inquiry tabled in Parliament by Amed MP Adalet Kaya, a request was made to investigate the connection between the cases of Gülistan Doku and Rojwelat Kızmaz.
The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has fined Halk TV and Koza TV over their reports on the Batman Special Healing Care Centre in Batman.

Speaking about the peace process, Erdoğan stated that work is underway on a legal framework, saying, “After completing the necessary consultations, we will submit the regulation to Parliament for consideration without unnecessary delay.”
LGBTI+ organizations issued a joint statement today condemning the detention of 209 people in police raids in Ankara ahead of the NATO summit scheduled for July 7-8. The detainees include Yıldız Tar, the editor-in-chief of Kaos GL, an LGBTI-focused media outlet.
According to a Reuters report, the Trump administration is preparing to approve the sale of engines to be used in Turkey’s domestically produced KAAN fighter jet, despite objections from Congress. The sale, which is expected to exceed $700 million ahead of the NATO Summit, is seen as a significant gesture towards Turkey.
At the hearing in the HDK case involving journalists Yıldız Tar and İbrahim Halit Elçi, the court rejected the request to lift the judicial control measures. The hearing was adjourned until 24 November.

Referring to the attacks on HDP buildings following the confessions of Ömer Deniz Dündar, a member of Daesh, the case’s lawyer, Tugay Bek, said: “Had this case been fully investigated, subsequent massacres could have been prevented. The unlawful restriction order must be lifted to allow the victims to examine the case files.”
In the investigation targeting Adalar Municipality, Mayor Ali Ercan Akpolat and 34 others who had been detained were arrested.
The trial of journalist Furkan Karabay, which was filed following a complaint by Constitutional Court member İrfan Fidan, was held in Ankara. The court ruled to dismiss the case on the grounds that the statutory time limit under the Press Law had expired.
Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who was appointed to the CHP following a ruling of absolute nullity, has filed a criminal complaint against journalist Şaban Sevinç, who alleged that he had “instructed CHP mayors to finance media outlets aligned with us”.
Selahattin Demirtaş said of Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu’s proposal to meet with him: “I have not received any direct information on this matter. Even if I were to receive such a proposal, I would not meet with him.”

Ömer Deniz Dündar, an ISIS member and defendant in the October 10 Massacre case who was brought to Turkey, stated that ISIS was holding talks with the state in an attempt to reach an agreement at the time of the October 10 Massacre.
The 12th Judicial Package, drafted by the AKP Group and containing numerous amendments, has been submitted to Parliament. Whilst the provisions at the centre of the debate have been postponed, the package submitted to Parliament did not include any provisions relating to prisons.
DEM Party MP Newroz Uysal Aslan’s motions for an inquiry and written questions regarding the case brought against members of Eğitim Sen, allegations of child abuse, sexual violence, judicial delays and impunity was returned on the grounds that they were “rude and hurtful”.
The ruling party is working to reinstate the Press Advertisement Institution’s (BİK) authority to impose ad bans on press outlets despite a Constitutional Court ruling annulling similar provisions.
Levent Koç, the Mayor of Haymana, who resigned from the CHP, has joined the AKP.
The tent vigil launched in protest against the geothermal power plant project that İgnis Enerji intends to build in the Varto district of Muş has reached its 50th day. The villagers have stated that they will continue their protest until the drilling licence is revoked.

At their 1,108th weekly protest, the Saturdays Mothers called for the perpetrators of the murder of Murat Aslan, who was killed 32 years ago, to be brought to justice.
Following the suspension of Silivri Mayor Bora Bağcıoğlu, CHP councillor Yalçın Ekici was elected deputy mayor in a vote held by the municipal council.
A Pride march took place in Ankara. After the march had finished, the police detained eight people in side streets.
The Private Sector Teachers’ Union and the Platform for Teachers Affected by Interview Processes continued their hunger strike, which they had launched to have their demands met, on its sixth day.

Ayşe Gökkan, former spokesperson of Free Women’s Movement (TJA), was sentenced to 19 years and 6 months in prison. The court ruled for her continued detention.
Justice Minister Akın Gürlek stated that the draft legislation relating to the process would be tabled in Parliament shortly, adding, “God willing, this law will come into force very soon.”
The global petition platform Change.org has been blocked in Turkey following a court decision.
A report compiled by human rights organisations in Van stated that serious human rights violations had taken place in nine prisons. The report noted that 12 seriously ill detainees were unable to access treatment, and that there were problems regarding hospital referrals and access to publications.
Police intervened against private-sector teachers and those who had failed their interviews, who were continuing their protests in Ankara; 10 people were taken into custody.

A total of 14 immunity files relating to 12 MPs, two of which pertain to CHP Leader Özgür Özel, have been submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
The DEM Party Prison Commission stated that prisoners’ access to healthcare is being blocked and discriminatory practices targeting Kurdish identity are continuing in Black Sea prisons.
Community Peacemaker Teams Iraqi Kurdistan announced that Turkey has taken control of 21 villages in the Sindi and Guli areas of Zakho and is preventing residents from returning to their villages.
A decision has been made to extend the detention of ETHA reporter Müslüm Koyun, and the trial has been adjourned until 16 July.
Güvenlik-Sen announced that its General Secretary, Yusuf Küçük, had been dismissed from his job due to his trade union activities.

The Media and Law Studies Association (MLSA) has filed an individual application with Turkey’s Constitutional Court, arguing that regulations requiring online broadcasters to obtain licenses from the country’s media regulator violate freedom of expression and freedom of the press.
The trial of journalist Timur Soykan over his social media posts regarding operations targeting CHP-run municipalitieswas held in Istanbul.
The Supreme Court overturned the ruling of the Regional Court of Appeal, which had annulled the 10-year prison sentence given to police officer Süleyman Esenboğa for the killing of Mazlum Turan in Kızıltepe, on the grounds of “unavoidable error.”
Deniz Poyraz, who was killed in the attack on the HDP’s İzmir provincial headquarters, was commemorated at her grave on the fifth anniversary of her death.

AKP spokesperson Ömer Çelik has reacted to the inclusion in the draft text of the European Parliament’s report on Turkey of a proposal to add Justice Minister Akın Gürlek to the European Union’s sanctions list.
Appointments to Ankara from the close-knit team of Akın Gürlek—who oversaw extensive operations, notably on 19 March, during his tenure as Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor—have attracted attention. Prosecutors who had been involved in a number of cases, primarily concerning the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, have been ‘transferred’ to Ankara.
In Adana, 25 sick prisoners are being held in prisons, two of whom have been deemed unfit for detention. Aziz Sari, a representative of the Lawyers Association ÖHD, stated that the condition of two prisoners is ‘critical’ and called for ‘the immediate release of seriously ill prisoners’.
In Hakkari’s Şemdinli district special sergeant Musa Gezer killed his wife Gülşen Gezer and 3 members of her family, while one person was seriously injured.
Police in Ankara, who attacked private-sector teachers, detained a large number of people, including Eren Edebali, the president of the Private-Sector Teachers’ Union.

The “Conference on the Democratic Transformation of the Republic in the Second Century,” which will continue for two days in Istanbul, has begun. The conference, held at the call of 29 intellectuals and writers, brought together a large number of figures from many circles, ranging from politics to civil society and the world of culture and art.
Attention was drawn to the situation of the ill prisoners Sabri Yavuz and Oktay Koçak in Ankara and Istanbul, and it was stated that their continued detention constitutes a clear violation of their rights to health and life.
Police attacked a march by women in Ankara protesting against the 12th Judicial Reform Package. Four women were beaten and taken into custody.

The CoE Committee of Ministers examined the ECHR’s rulings on Demirtaş and Kavala at its meeting held between 9-11 June. It reiterated its call for the immediate release of Demirtaş, Figen Yüksekdağ and Kavala.
Ali Mahir Başarır and Gökhan Günaydın, who were referred to disciplinary proceedings by the Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu administration, have had their deputy parliamentary group chairship titles within the CHP removed by Parliament.
President Erdoğan spoke about the crisis within the CHP. Erdoğan said, “The public watches the CHP every day as if it were an action film. It’s not a political party; it’s more like a fight club.”
As part of an investigation launched by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, five members of the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) and the Federation of Socialist Youth Associations (SGDF) have been detained.
According to ANHA news agency the border crossing between Mardin’s Nusaybin district and the city of Qamişlo in Syria will open next week.
The seventh hearing in the case against journalists Barış Pehlivan, Suat Toktaş, Kürşad Oğuz, Seda Selek and Serhan Asker was held in Istanbul. Trial adjourned until November.

The final hearing in the trial of Nefes newspaper reporter Nisanur Yıldırım, initiated upon a complaint by Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, was held in Istanbul. Yıldırım was acquitted.
A search operation has been launched in the area identified by Umut Altaş, who was arrested in the US following the issuance of a red notice against him in connection with the Gülistan Doku investigation.
Professor Zelal Ekinci, a ‘Peace Academician’ who was dismissed from her post at Kocaeli University under a decree-law, has been reinstated after 10 years.
Drawing attention to the process, Speaker of Parliament Numan Kurtulmuş said, “I hope that the work on this matter will be completed before Parliament goes into recess.”

The case file of human rights defender Nimet Tanrıkulu, against whom two rulings of lack of jurisdiction have been issued, has been referred to the Court of Cassation.
Lütfü Savaş, the former Mayor of Hatay Metropolitan Municipality who filed a lawsuit claiming “absolute nullity” regarding the CHP Congress, has announced that he has appealed to the Court of Cassation.
A ruling of absolute nullity was issued on the Motherland Party’s national congress held on 24 December 2023 on the grounds that forged signatures had been used.

Eighty two Nobel Laureates have sent a letter to Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and stressed for the imlementation of the “right to hope” in the context of Abdullah Öcalan.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the National Security Conferences, President Erdoğan said of the process: “The ‘Turkey without Terrorism’ process is more than just a security policy; it is the name of a strategic state vision for our country’s new century.”
An İstanbul court acquitted Mezopotamya Agency (MA) reporters Esra Solin Dal and Mehmet Aslan of membership in a terrorist organization, while sentencing journalist Erdoğan Alayumat to prison for terrorism propaganda.
Diyar Koç, who was detained under torture during a protest against the attacks on Rojava and subsequently imprisoned before his treatment was completed, was released at his first court hearing.
Following the rejection of his claim for compensation in a case in which he was acquitted, and after being ordered to pay the legal costs, a writ of attachment was served on the home of journalist Aziz Oruç by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance.
Speaking at the CHP headquarters rather than in Parliament due to the backlash, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said, ‘I’m not concerned about my position; I will convene the party congress.’
The Speaker of Parliament informed the CHP in a letter sent on the grounds of a “security risk” that visitors would not be admitted to the group meeting.

The Human Rights Association (İHD), noting that Seda Baykan, a prisoner in Diyarbakır on hunger strike, has lost 12 kilograms, called for her request for a medical transfer to be granted without delay.
Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, whose request for a weekly parliamentary group meeting had not been processed by the CHP Group Executive, lodged an appeal with the Speaker of Parliament.
MHP Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız said, ‘Manipulative public opinion polling firms are left with the fake results they have concocted at their desks. Legislation must be introduced without delay to prevent this fraud.’
DEM Party MP Cengiz Çiçek raised the issues of negligence, allegations of evidence tampering and impunity in the investigation into the murders of Bilal Gezer and Sinan Toprak in the Dargeçit district of Mardin—for which an indictment has been prepared 12 years later—on the parliamentary agenda.
Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Numan Kurtulmuş said, ‘Turkey will now adopt its new constitution in 2027 as a modern social contract befitting the nation.’
A new allegation has emerged in the Gülistan Doku investigation. The family’s lawyer, Ali Çimen, claimed that the direction of the KGYS cameras was altered following Doku’s disappearance and called for an investigation into the relevant public officials.
Ekmel Cönger, the AKP mayor of Keskin, has been sentenced to five years, two months and 15 days in prison on bribery charges.

Speaking about the meeting organised by Özgür Özel with 96 CHP MPs following the ruling of ‘absolute nullity’, Müslim Sarı, spokesperson for Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu’s leadership, said that Özgür Özel’s appointment as CHP Group Leader, which was confirmed at that meeting, could be revoked.
Hayati Yazıcı, Deputy Chair of the AKP and Head of Political and Legal Affairs, said, ‘The people will have the final say on the new constitution; in other words, it will be put to a referendum.’
Hamdullah Aydemir, a seriously ill prisoner with a 92 percent disability who was previously released due to health conditions, has received a notification ordering his return to prison following the expiration of the postponement of his sentence.

The DEM Party Imralı Delegation met with the AKP. It was reported that the draft of the “framework law”, also known as the “root law”, was discussed during the meeting.
Under a bill submitted to the Parliament by AKP MPs, a condition has been introduced requiring a final court ruling before individuals dismissed from the Ministry of National Defence, the National Intelligence Organisation, the Police and affiliated institutions on ‘terrorism’ charges can be reinstated. As a result of this regulation, the process of returning to duty will be prolonged.
The first hearing in the trial of İsmail Ari over a report he prepared for BirGün TV on charges of “publicly disseminating misleading information” (TCK 217/A) and “violation of confidentiality” was held in Ankara. The court ordered Arı’s release, finding that there was no concrete risk of tampering with evidence.
The second hearing of the trial of 53 people, including LGBTI+ people detained during the 23rd Istanbul Pride March, bianet editor Evrim Gündüz, journalists Nur Kaya and Yusuf Çelik, and photographer Cansu Yıldıran, was held in Istanbul. The hearing was adjourned following the objections.
DEM Party Co-Chairs, Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan, have sent a letter to the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe regarding the “right to hope” of Abdullah Öcalan.

In a notification submitted to the CoE’s Committee of Ministers, it was requested that the supervision process be carried out effectively to ensure the implementation of the judgments delivered for Abdullah Öcalan and other prisoners regarding the “right to hope.”
The Constitutional Court has annulled a legal provision that allows for the payment of indefinite alimony to a divorced spouse. Justice minister said they were already working to amend relevant provisions whereas women’s rights advocates criticized the verdict.
Former MP Mahmut Alınak was arrested following the upholding of his one-year-and-two-month prison sentence for ‘insulting the President’.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has ruled that it lacks jurisdiction in the investigation file concerning CHP chair Özgür Özel and CHP MPs Veli Ağbaba, Umut Akdoğan and Suat Özçağdaş, and has referred the case to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Lawyers from the İzmir Bar Association, who took part in the “Hand in Hand for Justice” chain protest, stated that there can be no rule of law where there is no independent and impartial judiciary.

The third hearing in the trial of 20 people, including journalist Fatoş Erdoğan, over social media posts opposing the appointment of a trustee to the CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair was held in Istanbul. Trial adjourned until October.
Workers at Özşen Madencilik, who have not been paid their wages since February and have not received their overtime pay for nearly a year, were met with resistance from the gendarmerie and police during their march to the company’s headquarters.

Although no prosecution brief has been prepared in the case of DEP MP Mehmet Sincar for seven years, the judicial supervision order against Cihan Yıldız, the sole defendant in the case, has been lifted.
Justice Minister Akın Gürlek and Home Affairs Minister Mustafa Çiftçi paid a visit to MHP chair Bahçeli.
Whilst the signature-gathering process for an extraordinary congress of the CHP was underway, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu was asked about the signatures collected by delegates. Kılıçdaroğlu did not respond to the question, “What will you do when the signatures are presented to you?”
Reşit Adsız, the brother of Burhan Adsız—a sick prisoner who has not been released despite a medical report stating he is unfit to remain in prison—said that the state should release sick prisoners as part of the process.
The fourth hearing in the trial against journalist Ercüment Akdeniz, who is charged with “membership in an armed organization” (Article 314/2 of the Turkish Penal Code) as part of the HDK investigations, was held in Istanbul. Ercüment Akdeniz was acquitted.
Turkey’s internet authority has blocked access to an investigative dossier exposing a visa outsourcing monopoly and the broader structure formed by states delegating visa application processes to private companies.
Sema Bingöl, a reporter for the Mezopotamya Agency, and five others who were detained at a memorial service for Ethem Sarısülük in Ankara were released after giving statements at the police station.
