Drawing attention to Serkan Onur Yılmaz’s 351-day hunger strike, the Contemporary Lawyers Association demanded the closure of dungeon-like prisons and the transfer of prisoners.

The Kurdistan Freedom Movement held a press conference today in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and announced the withdrawal of its armed forces from Turkey.
The meeting between the Imrali Delegation and President Erdoğan has been postponed until 30 October.
Following the withdrawal announcement, AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik stated ‘As the process continues, the positive framework to be outlined by the National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission will become clearer.’
The Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Ekrem İmamoğlu, İmamoğlu’s former adviser Necati Özkan, and TELE1 Editor-in-Chief Merdan Yanardağ were requested to be arrested on charges of ‘political espionage’.
Erdal Kuzu, the lawyer representing Ahmet Türk, who was acquitted in the case that led to the appointment of a trustee, pointed to the Administrative Court and said, ‘We are now awaiting their decision.’

A new investigation on espionage allegations has been launched involving İstanbul’s suspended mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, his campaign director Necati Özkan, and journalist Merdan Yanardağ, the İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office announced.
The Dersim branch of the Human Rights Association (İHD) pointed out that the increasing number of military and police checkpoints in Dersim was leading to violations and demanded an immediate end to the climate of pressure created by arbitrary practices.
Ekrem İmamoğlu was acquitted in a case related to his tenure as mayor of Beylikdüzü.
While 2 people were rescued from the refugee boat sinking off the coast of Bodrum district of Mugla, 14 refugees lost their lives. The search for 2 refugees continues.
The trial of eight journalists who were detained for covering the Saraçhane protests, held in custody for one day, and then released, was heard today in Istanbul. The court immediately rejected the request for acquittal. Trial adjourned until 27 November.

Can Atalay, who has been detained in Silivri for three years as part of the Gezi Park trial and whose parliamentary seat was revoked, recalled the Constitutional Court’s ruling on “rights violations” and appealed to Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş.
Ahmet Türk was acquitted in the case in which he was tried on charges of “organization propaganda” and which was used as grounds for appointing a trustee to the Mardin Metropolitan Municipality.
A court in İstanbul has ordered the release of journalist Ercüment Akdeniz, former editor-in-chief of the left-wing daily Evrensel, after eight months in pre-trial detention. Akdeniz was among those detained in police raids in February targeting the Peoples’ Democratic Congress.
The trial of BirGün Chair of the Board İbrahim Aydın, Publishing Coordinator Uğur Koç and Managing Editor Yaşar Gökdemir began in Istanbul. Uğur Koç and Yaşar Gökdemir were sentenced to a judicial fine of 34,400 TL each. İbrahim Aydın was sentenced to 11 months and 20 days in prison.
The trial of Van Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Neslihan Şedal, who was prosecuted for her speech against the appointment of a trustee to the municipality, has been postponed.
A request for the release of Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, who was arrested as part of operations targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, was submitted through his lawyer Hüseyin Ersöz.

MHP chair Devlet Bahçeli has renewed his call for Northern Cyprus to become part of Turkey.
The release of Sermin Demirdağ, who is being held at Sincan Women’s Closed Prison, has been blocked for the seventh time. The DEM Party has submitted an application to the Parliamentary Human Rights Investigation Commission (İHİK). Demirağ has been detained since 1993.
The release of prisoner Nurcan Aslan has been postponed for a further six months on the grounds that she has served disciplinary sentences.

President Erdoğan has congratulated the pro-federation president-elect of Northern Cyprus, while his main ally Bahçeli has called on the Turkish cypriot parliament to reject the results and pursue unification with Turkey.
Footage emerged showing that Hüseyin Bayrak, a candidate for the board of directors in the accountant and financial advisor elections, was booed by a racist group with shouts of ‘Don’t speak. We have no respect for you’ when he greeted the audience in Kurdish.
The detention of the CHP mayors of Beşiktaş, Esenyurt, Avcılar, Seyhan, Ceyhan and Adana Metropolitan Municipalities has been extended.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated that the ongoing process is not merely a security project, adding, ‘It is a goal of civilisation. It means guaranteeing the right to life, peace and security.’
The third hearing of the retrial concerning journalist İdris Yılmaz, following the Supreme Court’s overturning of his conviction for ‘insult,’ was held in Erciş. Lawyer Hazal Sümeli requested that the missing issues be addressed. The hearing was postponed until January.

At the 2nd Mesopotamia Water Forum held in Diyarbakır, proposals were developed regarding the obstruction of the right to access water, ecological damage and the protection of water resources.
Nilüfer’s former Mayor Turgay Erdem fell ill in prison and was transferred to intensive care.

DEM Party Diyarbakır MP Berdan Öztürk was sentenced to 6 years and 4 months in prison today in a case heard at the Ağrı 1st High Criminal Court.
Fifteen people, including a member of the DEM Party Ağrı Municipal Council, were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 7 years and 6 months to 44 years by the Ağrı 1st High Criminal Court. This was protested in Ağrı.
The case brought against Ekrem İmamoğlu on charges of insulting prosecutors was dismissed before trial began after his lawyers made a preliminary payment.
The Supreme Election Board (YSK) has announced that there are no obstacles to the CHP’s 39th Ordinary Istanbul Provincial Congress taking place tomorrow.
Sixteen bar associations announced that they would follow the case, stating that the investigation into the suspicious death of Van Yüzüncü Yıl University student Rojin Kabaiş had been conducted inadequately.

The Asrin Law Office has published a statement on the visit to İmralı. Öcalan stated “The principle of hope is a step the state must take. This is an issue affecting thousands of people. No matter how you look at it, it must be lifted. It must be done from a legal perspective. Both politics and justice demand it.”
Security guards and police intervened against Hacettepe University students who wanted to march to the Rector’s Office to protest the canteen price increase. Over 20 students were detained.
Dr Huseyin Yavic, a member of the Van-Hakkari Medical Chamber who participated in the autopsy of Rojin Kabais, said that major shortcomings in the investigation have hindered the process from the very beginning.

The European Court of Human Rights has ruled that Kurdish politician Aysel Tuğluk was detained for political reasons, concluding that her 2016 pre-trial detention was intended to suppress political opposition and limit democratic pluralism.
An indictment has been prepared against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan, seeking a prison sentence of between six months and three years for the crime of “resisting the performance of duty” against a security officer assigned to Çağlayan Courthouse.
Parliamentary Vice-President Pervin Buldan responded to the İYİ Party Group, which insulted Abdullah Öcalan and targeted her, saying, ‘We will continue to speak of peace and brotherhood in this country. Know your place.’

Mesut Aslan, a member of the Education Union Şırnak Branch Executive Committee, has begun a hunger strike in protest against the overturning of the prison sentence handed down to Burak Ercan, the deputy headmaster who sexually abused 43 students in Cizre.
Nine of the 33 individuals detained as part of an investigation into allegations of bribery in connection with permit applications submitted to the Ministry of National Defence have been arrested.
Journalist and documentary director Hakan Tosun, who had not been heard from since the night of 10 October, was found beaten on the roadside. Tosun, who was stated to have had a brain haemorrhage, was taken under treatment in the intensive care unit.

DEM Party MPs reacted to the Justice Ministry’s appeal against the European Court of Human Rights’ ruling on Selahattin Demirtaş by protesting the decision in Parliament with placards and applause.
ÖHD, TUAY-DER and İHD stated that violations in Antalya prisons had reached a point where they threatened the right to life and called for an end to arbitrary violations.
Soldiers were heard at the 14th meeting of the Process Commission established in Parliament. Prior to the meeting, Numan Kurtulmuş met with the deputy group leaders.
The fourth hearing of the case against journalist Rüstem Batum, who was charged with ‘insulting the President’ based on two posts he made on X, was held in Istanbul. The court, which decided to uphold the arrest warrant for Batum, postponed the hearing until May.
The first hearing of the retrial of lawyer Özgür Urfa, whose 10-month prison sentence for ‘insulting the President’ was overturned by the Court of Cassation on the grounds of statements made in his appeal, began in Istanbul. The hearing was postponed until 31 October.

The Human Rights Association (İHD) Şırnak Branch reacted to T-shirts sold online featuring the ‘White Toros’ and ‘Grey Wolf symbol’ alongside the slogan ‘How can seventeen thousand people fit into a white Toros?’ stating, ‘Respect for the memory of the disappeared is a prerequisite for social peace and justice.’
Speaking at the World Teachers’ Day event, Özkan Demirkol, President of the Eskişehir Branch of the Education Union, called for the reinstatement of education workers dismissed under the Decree Laws.
DEM Party MP Newroz Uysal Aslan brought to the Assembly’s agenda the case of Soncan Gedik, a prisoner who defended himself in Kurdish, whose disciplinary punishment was not lifted and whose sentence was not postponed, while the punishment of 52 out of 53 people who received disciplinary punishment for using the phrase ‘Mr Öcalan’ was lifted.
The TFF Arbitration Board accepted Amedspor’s appeal against the two fines imposed for its Kurdish advertising slogan and decided to review the application.
